The 2009 BankUnited Marlins Celebrity Golf Classic will take place on Thursday, February 5, 2009, at Bonaventure Country Club in Weston, FL. This fundraising event grants Marlins fans the opportunity to join Marlins players, coaches, broadcasters and other local celebrities during a beautiful day on the links. The tournament includes 18 holes of golf, continental breakfast, exciting contests, unique auction items, great prizes, cocktail reception and awards dinner. All proceeds will benefit the Cornerstones for Kids programs...building a brighter future through education, the arts and baseball.

Each foursome will be paired with one celebrity. The "caddy" will enjoy a full day of festivities on the course, which includes driving a celebrity for 18 holes and participating in the cocktail reception and dinner.

Bonaventure's own John Della-Pietra "represents" at the Amateur Golf League competition at Ocean Breeze, Sunday, February 23, 2008. John took home a victory in the Gross division and the Net division. The Gross is based on actual gross scores with all putts holed out. The player who is competitive in this division will generally score in the mid to high 70's, John tallied a 70 on a Par 71.

The net division is based on a point quota for each player. The point quota tournament is based on the number 36 less your handicap. In General, if you make your points, you should do very well in the overall competition. John made his points, with a total 37, quota 29 and leading the day with a + 8 result. With all his Bonaventure Saturday Stableford League practice, we would say we are not surprised at how well he did!

Sunday, October 7, 2007 marked the date of the Annual Bonaventure Country Club Members Appreciation Event, a free, yearly invitational for members at Bonaventure Country Club. In attendance were members of the Bonaventure community and 180 witnesses to one heck of a shot. Well, not all 180 saw the ball go in the hole... In-fact, Paul Kavanaugh did not even see the ball go in after he swung his 7 iron on hole #5 of the West Course for his hole-in-one. Paul was cautious not to hit the ball over the green into the bunker and gauged a 178 yard shot factoring in the ever present hole #5 wind. Bonaventure staff and members made their way out to say congratulations and word spread fast. The picture below was taken on the 8th tee box where you can see the smile had not yet worn off! The day was capped off by a banquet and dinner for the member's event and... 18 pitchers of beer purchased in celebration by Paul. Congratulations on your hole in one!

Here at Bonaventure, we have heard some stories. As one of the top layouts in South Florida with water on 14 out of 18 holes on the East, there have been tales of triumph and defeat. On both the East and West golf courses there have been shots that make you come back and (sometimes) shots that make you wish you never had, often, in the same round! There have been some great times here at Bonaventure both on and off the course and definitely more great times to come. This is your chance to share some of your stories.
